Golfito

Golfito

Golfito is a former banana port now struggling to survive by tourism. It is strung out along a coastal road backed by the steep forested hills of the Refugio Nacional de Fauna Slivestre Golfito. Boats cross the Golfo Dulce to Puerto Jimenez, which is the point of entry to the southern and eastern sides of Parque Nacional Corcovado.

Two km south of the town center, a gravel road goes past a soccer field and up to some radio towers, seven km away and 486 meters above sea level. This is a good access road to the refuge. Another possibility is to continue north along the road past the airstrip - there are trails. Camping is permitted, but there are no facilities.
